We have traveled a lot and seen some wonderful things like the Great Wall and Uluru but this swamp adventure rates right up as one of the best! Chris and Mike led the trip. They were excited about the trip and were solicitous and helpful to this big group of seniors. It had recently rained, so the path was very muddy and included wading through knee deep water. At each watery expanse, Chris waded out and checked the depth and lent a hand to everyone. Once at the mounds, Chris explained clearly and knowledgeably about the Indians life. With help, we all climbed to the top of the big mound (slipping in the mud in both directions). Again the guides were there to help with the climbing. It was a wonderful afternoon adventure and one that we would recommend highly. Be advised to wear old shoes and expect to get muddy if it has rained recently. Believe me, it’s an adventure worth doing! Sue and Kyle J. Mason, OH – March 2018

This is a completely immersive adventure. The kind where we paddle into the middle of no-where, then trek through the swamp and backwards in time to the Mississippian Tribes of the 13th Century. This is Chichen Itza before the tourists, and every bit as powerful. But there’s no guide ropes, no food kiosks, and the interpretive tour is really that! These American Pyramids were built by hand, one basket full of mud and oyster shells at a time – now that’s due at least a minute of quiet awe. Our guide provides the interpretive side, you provide the manpower and the awe.The Native American tribes of what is now the Midwestern, Eastern, and Southeastern United States, flourished in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta approximately 800 years ago. These tribes were part of a Mississippian mound-building culture. Once we reach Bottle Creek deep in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta of Alabama, you’ll learn about their sports, housing, food, and culture.

Accessible only by boat, this is a 6 – 8 hour interpretive tour that involves 5 – 6 hours of kayaking and a reasonable hike through the Delta, culminating in climbing the highest hand-built Mound at 45 feet (when the rest of the delta varies by only 3 feet). During this tour, your guide will introduce you to both the fauna and flora of the middle Delta’s cypress swamps as well as a walk back in time, to a day in the life of the Native Americans who left this amazing legacy.
